Polyetheretherketone (PEEK)/Overview

Continuous variable transmission

Polyetheretherketone (PEEK),a semi-crystalline polymer with minimum moisture absorption, retains mechanical properties of strength, chemical and friction resistance, and long term dimensional integrity at temperatures up to 570°F (300°C). It is non-corrosive, non-conductive, flame retardant and sterilizable.

Polyaryletherketones (PAEK), closely related to PEEK, provides comparable property performance at even higher temperatures.

Multiple Properties

PEEK's power lies in the combinations of exceptional properties, for example:

High purity unfilled PEEK is sterilizable with near perfect dimensional integrity for medical applications;

Graphite filled grades have unparalleled friction performance in high RPM automotive and industrial applications;

Glass filled PEEK provide high impact strength; and, carbon filled grades make for super wear performance.

And, all grades share the properties of high continuous use temperatures (CUT), low moisture absorption, chemical and corrosion resistance, and minimal outgassing.

Proliferating Uses

Well established PEEK applications cut across myriad industries (especially aerospace, automotive, industrial, electrical and medical) and continue to proliferate with new uses: non-conductive nuts and bolts, hydraulic quick couplers, semiconductor polishing rings, high heat gears, chemical resistant impellers, wear resistant vanes, bearings and retainers. . . and other high end niche applications.

PEEK Micro Insert Molding

As a semi-crystalline polymer, PEEK has a liquid like flow rate, making it ideal for micro-molding. PEEK adheres well to a wide variety of substrates, making it an excellent material for overmolding.
